- Heartland worsted yarn from Lion Brand
- 5mm (H8) crochet hook (or whatever size is needed to obtain gauge)
- scissors
- tapestry needle
- 3.15″ plastic bauble
- stitch marker

- This pattern is written using standard US crochet terms.
- This pattern is worked in the round, but please note that some rounds are turning rounds.
- This bauble cover is finished by crocheting the last decreasing round with the bauble inside for the best fit.
Stitches used and abbreviations
- sk = skip
- ch = chain
- st/sts = stitch/stitches
- sl st = slip stitch
- yo = yarn over
- hdc = half double crochet
- hdc dec = half double crochet decrease
- bbl = bobble stitch
Half Double Crochet Decrease (hdc dec)
This is my version of the hdc dec, specifically for this pattern as a traditional hdc dec is a bit too thick.
*to make a hdc dec: yo, insert hook into st and pull up a loop. Immediately insert hook into next st and pull up a loop. 4 loops on hook. Yo and pull through all 4 loops. First hdc dec is made.
Bobble Stitch (bbl)
[yo, insert hook into st and pull up a loop, pull through 2 loops] 5 times (6 loops on hook), yo and pull through all 6 loops. Bobble stitch is made.
Gauge
At the end of Round 4, it should measure 3″ across.

Pattern Instructions for the Crochet Bobble Ornament
Make a magic circle. Ch 1.
Round 1: work 8 hdc in circle, join with a sl st to the first st, ch 1. (8 hdc)
Round 2: work 2 hdc in first st and each st around, join with a sl st to the first st, ch 1. (16 hdc)
Round 3: work 2 hdc in first st, 1 hdc in next st, [2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next st], repeat from [ to ] around, join with a sl st to the first st, ch 1. (24 hdc)
Round 4: work 2 hdc in first st, 1 hdc in each of next 2 sts. [2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in each of next 2 sts], repeat from [ to ] around, join with a sl st to the first st, turn, ch 1. (32 hdc)
Round 5: work 1 hdc in first 16 sts, bbl st, 1 hdc in each of next 15 sts, join with a sl st to the first st, join with sl st to first st, turn, ch 1. (31 hdc, 1 bbl st)
Round 6: work 1 hdc in each st around, join with a sl st to the first st, , turn, ch 1. (32 hdc)
Round 7: work 1 hdc in first 14 sts, bbl st, 1 hdc in next st, bbl st, 1 hdc in next st, bbl st, 1 hdc in each st around, join with a sl st to the first st, join with sl st to first st, turn, ch 1. (29 hdc, 3 bbl sts)
Round 8: work 1 hdc in each st around, join with a sl st to the first st, , turn, ch 1. (32 hdc)
Round 9: work 1 hdc in first 15 sts, bbl st, 1 hdc in next st, bbl st, 1 hdc in each st around, join with a sl st to the first st, join with sl st to first st, turn, ch 1. (30 hdc, 2 bbl sts)
Round 10: work 1 hdc in each st around, join with a sl st to the first st, , turn, ch 1. (32 hdc)
Round 11: work 1 hdc in first 16 sts, bbl st, 1 hdc in each st around, join with a sl st to the first st, join with sl st to first st, turn, ch 1. (31 hdc, 1 bbl sts)
*Make sure you turned your work and are working from the right side again.
Round 12: work hdc dec around, insert bauble into cover before joining, join with a sl st to the first st, ch 1. (16 hdc)
Round 13: work hdc dec around, join with a sl st to the first st. (8 hdc)
