Why You’ll Love the Crochet Waffle Blanket

One of the reasons the Waffle Crochet Blanket is so beloved is its simplicity and elegance. The entire pattern is based on a simple two-row repeat, making it incredibly easy to memorize and perfect for both beginners and seasoned crocheters. This repetitive stitch pattern allows you to get into a rhythm, making the project both relaxing and satisfying.

The texture of the waffle stitch not only looks stunning but also adds an extra layer of warmth, making it an ideal blanket for chilly evenings. The deep ridges and valleys created by the front post double crochet stitches give the blanket a plush, luxurious feel that’s hard to resist. This texture also gives the blanket a modern, sophisticated look that can complement any decor style, from rustic to contemporary.

  • Worsted weight yarn is fine for this pattern too, however, keep in mind that your blanket will be on the smaller side – think ‘lap blanket’ size.

  • You can use whatever colors you’d like! However, in this pattern, I will be referring to the specific colors I used.
  • Make this blanket wider by adding foundation dc sts in any multiple of 3. Alternatively, start with a ch of any multiple of 3+2.

Making the Tassels

(make 2 in the top color and 2 in the bottom colors)

You will add 1 tassel per corner.

How to make the tassels:

*I’m sure there is a more ‘official’ way to make these but this is my silly way of doing this LOL

Step 1: Find an object that is approximately 6″ long – I used my iPhone.

Step 2: Start by tying a piece of yarn (make this longer than you think you need it to be) around the width of the phone.

Step 3: Wrap the yarn around the object until the tassel is your desired thickness. I wrapped mine a total of 30 times.

Step 4: Untie the piece of yarn you tied in Step 2 and then pull one side of that piece of yarn out to the other side.

Step 5: Pull that piece of yarn up and tie it in a knot.

Step 6: Slide all of the yarn off the phone and cut through the loop on the end opposite of the end that you tied.

Step 7: Gather the tassel together and tie a piece of yarn around the whole thing to form a ‘head’.

Step 8: Trim the ends and attach the tassel to the center st of each strip. After tying your tassel on, use a crochet hook to pull the ends down through the tassel as part of the ‘fringe’.
