Crochet Water Bottle Holder Pattern

When the weather warms up or you’re heading out for a walk, hike, or even a local farmers market stroll, having water on hand is a must. But carrying a bottle in your hand or trying to jam it in a bag that barely fits? Not ideal. Thatโ€™s where a crochet water bottle holder comes in handy! Not only is it practical, but itโ€™s also a fun, functional project that works up quickly and is easy to customize with your favorite colors.

Whether you’re planning a summer outing, prepping for a craft fair, or looking for a thoughtful handmade gift, this pattern has you covered. It’s written for a standard 16 oz or 20 oz bottle, but it can also comfortably fit a canโ€”making it versatile for hydration or your favorite sparkling drink on the go. Plus, itโ€™s reusable, eco-friendly, and way cuter than anything youโ€™d find in stores.

The Perfect Yarn for the Job

For this project, I used 24/7 Cotton by Lion Brandโ€”a mercerized 100% cotton yarn that has excellent stitch definition, durability, and a beautiful sheen. Cotton is a great choice for a crochet water bottle holder because it doesnโ€™t stretch out over time like some acrylics do, and it can handle the weight of a full bottle without sagging. Plus, it’s easy to wash, which is always a win for any item thatโ€™s going to be used on the go.

A Fun Stitch for Texture

To keep things interesting, this pattern features the crossed double crochet stitch, which adds just the right amount of texture without making the project complicated. If you’ve never tried this stitch before, donโ€™t worryโ€”it’s easier than it looks and adds such a fun visual detail to your finished piece!

Row 2:
Sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn.
(5 sts)

Repeat Row 2 until the strap measures approximately 41 inches or your desired length.

Do not fasten off.

Attaching the Strap

*Before attaching, make sure that youโ€™ve ended on a row where the inside of the holder is facing you, not the outside. This keeps your working yarn at the correct end, so you can continue attaching the strap without needing to cut and reattach the yarn.

  1. Fold your water bottle holder in half so that the strap (the side that is already attached) is centered on one side.
  2. Locate the 5 stitches on the opposite side of the holder that directly line up with the strap. This is where we will attach the other end of the strap.
  3. Working from the inside of the holder, insert your hook through the stitch on the opposite side and then through up a loop through both layers (the holder and the loose end of the strap).
  4. Chain 1 to secure it.
  5. Sl st through both layers (the strap and the holder) across the next 5 stitches to attach the strap evenly.
    (5 sl sts)

Fasten off and weave in all ends.
