Yarn Details & Substitutions

I designed this cozy using Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton—a worsted weight cotton yarn that’s smooth, durable, and gives the cozy a sleek, polished feel. It holds its shape well and comes in a range of rich, vibrant colors.

Looking for alternatives? Here are some other great yarns you can use for this project:

  • Lily Sugar ‘n Cream – affordable and easy to find
  • I Love This Cotton! – soft with a slight sheen
  • Dishie by Knit Picks – a sturdy option with tons of color choices

Choose a cotton yarn you love—you’ll want a fiber that’s washable and has enough structure to hold its shape around the glass.

Pattern Instructions

Round 2: sc in same st and in next 3 sts. 2 sc in next st [sc in next 4 sts, 2 sc in next st] around. Join to first sc, ch 1 (30 sc)

Round 3: sc in same st and in next 4 sts. 2 sc in next st [sc in next 5 sts, 2 sc in next st] around. Join to first sc, ch 1. (35 sc)

Round 4: sc in same st and in each st around. Join to first sc, ch 1. (35 sc)

Rounds 5-10: repeat round 4. (35 sc)

Attach the contrasting color, but still leave the main color attached because we will pick it back up in a couple rounds.

Round 11: using the contrasting color, attach it, ch 1, and repeat Round 4.

Round 12: sc in same st and in next 4 sts, sc dec [sc in next 5 sts, sc dec] around. Join to first sc, ch 1. (30 sc)

Round 13: Alternate one sc and one puff stitch (ps) around.

  • Work 1 sc in the contrasting color.
  • Work 1 ps in the main color.
  • Repeat around, alternating 1 sc in the contrasting color and 1 ps in the main color.

*Color Change Instructions*

  • Finish the last stitch of the previous color, but do not complete the final step (e.g., don’t yarn over and pull through the last two loops for a sc).
  • Yarn over with the new color and pull through to complete the stitch.
  • Continue crocheting with the new color, following the pattern.
  • Lay the unused color yarn over the stitches as you work, making sure to crochet over it. This will keep it in place so you can easily pick it up when you switch back to it later.

Round 14: now you can fasten off the main color. We are now just using the contratsing color. Sc in same st and in each st around. Join to first sc. (30 sc)

Round 15: (this round is optional) sl st in each stitch around. This helps the cozy to fit snuggly around the glass but loose tension is a must if you decide to make this round.

Fasten off and weave in ends.
