- Beginner: as long as the maker is familiar with basic crochet stitches, then anyone can make this stitch.
- chain 1 does not count as a stitch
- this stitch is a one-row repeat
- start with any even number of chains
STITCHES USED AND ABBREVIATIONS:
- ch/chs = chain/chains
- st/sts = stitch/stitches
- sl st/sl sts = slip stitch/stitches
- hdc/hdcs = half double crochet/crochets
Instructions for the Even Moss Crochet Stitch:
This tutorial is just for a practice swatch. However, if you’re a confident crocheter and want to just jump into making a project (dishcloth, scarf, etc.) then go for it!
Step 1: Start by making a ch of any even number.
Step 2: Work one sl st in the 2nd ch from the hook.
Step 3: Now work one hdc in the next ch
Step 4: Continue to alternate one sl st and one hdc all the way across. Ch 1, turn.
Step 5: From here, you will be working sl sts in sl sts and hdcs in hdcs. So, work one sl st in the first st of this row.
Step 6: Now, work one hdc in the next st.
Step 7: Continue to alternate sl sts and hdcs all the way across. Ch 1, turn.
Step 8: Repeat row 2 as many times as you wish until your practice swatch is your desired size.
