Pattern Instructions for the Candy Stripe Christmas Bauble
Ch 17, or until your ch reaches about 5″ in length.
Row 1: work a sl st in the 2nd ch from the hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. (16 sl sts)
Row 2: work a sl st blo in each st across. Ch 1, turn. (16 sl sts)
Row 3: repeat Row 2.
Row 4: repeat Row 2.
Fasten off and attach contrasting color, ch 1.
Rows 5-8: (working with the contrasting color) repeat Row 2.
Fasten off and attach previous color.
Continue to alternate 4 rows of the first color used and 4 rows of the contrasting color until you have 40 rows total or until your strip reaches 6.5″ in length.
Do not fasten off.
Seaming the side:
- Fold the strip making sure the wrong side is facing you.
- Insert your hook through the back loop of the st in the row you just finished as well as your first foundation chain. Pull up a loop.
- Ch 1.
- Work a sl st through these 2 sps and all the way across.
- Fasten off, leaving a tail long enough for cinching the end.
*Alternatively, you can whip stitch across.
Cinching the ends:
- Flip your cover so the right side is now facing out. We will cinch the bottom first.
- Thread a long piece of yarn onto a tapestry needle and begin to weave the needle in and out all the way around the bottom edge of the cover. Pull the ends to cinch it closed.
- Tie off and, using your crochet hook, pull the ends inside the cover to hide them.
- Insert your bauble and make sure any loose ends are tucked inside.
- Repeat steps 2 & 3 for the top of the cover/bauble.
