Almond Ridge Bauble Pattern Details
Pattern is written in US terminology
Materials:
- Heartland worsted yarn from Lion Brand
- 5mm (H8) crochet hook (or whatever size is needed to obtain gauge)
- scissors
- tapestry needle
- tape measure
- 3.15″ plastic bauble
Skill level:
Advanced beginner.
Pattern notes:
- This pattern is written using standard US crochet terms.
- The chain 1 at the beginning of the row, does not count as a stitch.
- This is meant to have a somewhat snug fit around the bauble.
- This bauble cover is worked flat, then sewn down the side. Once the bauble is inserted into the cover, each end is cinched closed using a tapestry needle
Stitches used and abbreviations:
- ch = chain
- st/sts = stitch/stitches
- sl st = slip stitch
- sl st blo = slip stitch back loop only
- hdc = half double crochet
- hdc blo = half double crochet back loop only
Slip Stitch Back Loop Only (sl st blo)
Work a sl st as normal, except insert your hook into the back loop.
Half Double Crochet Back Loop Only (hdc blo)
Work a hdc as normal, except insert your hook into the back loop.
Finished measurements:
*bauble cover is lying flat and not seamed on the side yet

- Width: 7.5โ
Gauge:
1โณ square = 4 hdc x 3 rows (worked with 5.00mm hook)

Pattern Instructions for the Almond Ridge Christmas Bauble
Ch 17
Row 1: work a sl st in the 2nd ch from the hook and in the next ch, work 1 hdc in each of the next 4 ch, 1 sl st in each of the next 4 chs, 1 hdc in each of the next 4 chs, work 1 sl st in each of the last 2 chs. Ch 1, turn. (8 sl sts, 8 hdc)
Row 2: work 1 sl st blo in the first st and in each of next st, work 1 hdc blo in each of the next 4 sts, 1 sl st blo in each of the next 4 sts, 1 hdc in each of the next 4 chs, work 1 sl st blo in each of the last 2 sts. Ch 1, turn. (8 sl sts, 8 hdc)
Row 3: work 1 sl st blo in each of the first 6 sts, 1 hdc blo in each of the next 4 sts, 1 sl st blo in each of the next 6 sts. Ch 1, turn. (12 sl sts, 4 hdc)
Row 4: repeat Row 3.
Rows 5-6: repeat Row 2.
Rows 7-8: repeat Row 3.
Rows 9-10: repeat Row 2.
Rows 11-12: repeat Row 3.
Rows 12-14: repeat Row 2.
Rows 15-16: repeat Row 3.
Rows 17-18: repeat Row 2.
Rows 19-20: repeat Row 3.
Rows 21-22: repeat Row 2.
Rows 23-24: repeat Row 3.
Rows 25-26: repeat Row 2.
Rows 27-28: repeat Row 3.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Seaming the side
Fold the rectangle so the wrong side is facing you. Thread the tail onto a tapestry needle and begin to whipstitch across. Make sure you are inserting your needle through the foundation chain as well as the back loop of each st in the last row.
Flip your bauble cover around so the right side is now on the outside.
Cinching the ends
Insert your bauble into the cover. Thread a long piece of yarn onto a tapestry needle and begin to weave your needle in and out around the bottom of the cover. Pull the end to cinch it closed and secure the ends.
Repeat for the top of the cover.
