Crochet Life in the Fall

Pin it before you forget

Catch up with me in this cozy fall Crochet Diaries where I share what I’ve been making and a peek at our autumn so far.

Crochet Diaries: Life in the Fall

Crochet Diaries: Cozy Days, Fall Feels, and Yarn-Filled Evenings

Fall has certainly arrived, and while we’ve been soaking up these beautiful, mild fall days, I can’t help but feel a little sense of dread creeping in. Don’t get me wrong — I am 100% a fall girlie, okay? 🍂 I’m all about the crisp air, long bike rides, scenic hikes, and all the beautiful colors that seem to pop out of nowhere. Give me apple-scented candles, pumpkin spice everything, and I am one happy camper.

But… fall also means winter is coming. And winter, when you live off-grid, is a lot of work. It’s the season of keeping the fire going all day long, chopping and stacking wood, dealing with frozen water, making sure the generator is fueled, and keeping propane in all the tanks. My husband has been hard at work cutting down the dead trees on our property and turning them into firewood. We’ve already got a nice little pile going — and we even used a bit of it the other night for a campfire under the stars. There’s just something so peaceful about sitting by a fire, wrapped in a blanket, breathing in that woodsy air.

My First 10K (and Why I’m Still Smiling About It)

In other news, I did something I’ve never done before — my first ever 10K! This was a unique course because it followed the original Grand Prix course in Watkins Glen. And the views did not disappoint!

And let me tell you, what a rush that was. I’m a power walker (thanks to lifelong body alignment issues — uneven hips and one leg shorter than the other), so running has never been in the cards for me. But that didn’t stop me! The first 3.5 miles were all uphill, and I was huffing and puffing my way up like the little engine that could. But once I reached the top? It was smooth sailing all the way down. I felt amazing crossing that finish line, and I’m already planning to sign up again next year.

When Crochet Friends Get Together

Now, let’s talk about the crochet side of things — because you know that’s where my heart always lands.

My wonderful friend Debbie (you might know her as MadameStitch) came up to the Finger Lakes for a few days, and we had the best time together! We had all these grand plans to film, take photos, and create a bunch of content while she was here. You know how much we actually did? None of it. 😂 We were too busy laughing, drinking wine, and soaking in the peaceful rhythm of being around someone who just “gets it.”

Of course, we did manage to get some work done. We’ve been working on something really special for Christmas called “A Very Cottage Christmas”, and oh my goodness, you’re going to love it. Think cozy, classic, and a little touch of whimsy.

Debbie’s visit was wonderful, as we worked quietly side by side — wine glasses in hand, laptops open — each of us working on our own projects in total comfort. It was exactly what my heart needed.

Farmer’s Market Nights

My husband and I also had ourselves a little farmer’s market date night recently, and it was just perfect. We sipped hot chocolate, browsed all the local goodies, I ate the best bowl of Thai food, and listened to my favorite local musicians — a group called Louiston. They’ve got such a unique style with these gorgeous harmonies that are so easy to listen to. (And as a lifelong musician myself, I’m a bit of a music snob, so you know that means something! 😂)

If you’re ever in the mood to find something new to listen to while you crochet, definitely check them out — they’ve got that relaxed, heartwarming vibe that pairs perfectly with a cozy project and a cup of tea.

Sneak Peek: The Woodland Bloom Blanket

And speaking of crochet projects… I’ve been working on a new blanket design that I am completely smitten with: the Woodland Bloom Blanket. If you want a sneak peek, you can check out my Woodland Bloom square that is the basis for this blanket project.

This one has all the cozy, cottage-y vibes I’ve been craving lately. I picked out warm, yet bright fall-inspired colors — mustard, olive, rustic red, and a deep lavender — and they just blend together so beautifully. It’s the kind of project that makes you want to curl up with a cup of tea, a good playlist, and just be.

I did have to set it aside for a short time while Debbie and I finish prepping for our Christmas event, but don’t worry — it’s only temporary! I can’t wait to get back to it and show you the finished blanket. I already know it’s going to be one of my favorites.

Until Next Time

It’s been such a cozy, full, and joy-filled season — and writing these Crochet Diaries always feels like catching up with an old friend. Between fall adventures, good music, and yarn-filled evenings, I’m feeling deeply grateful for these simple little moments that make life so rich.

Before I sign off, I thought I’d share a few snapshots from our fall so far. The colors have been incredible this year, and I just couldn’t resist capturing a few of those cozy little moments that make this season so special. 🍂

I’ll see you soon in the next Crochet Diaries … I’ve got so much more to share, and I can’t wait to take you along with me.

XOXO,
Christine
