- The chain 1 at the beginning of the round, does not count as a stitch.

- Find two spaces: the stitch where you made your first single crochet (sc) in this row and the stitch two rows below where youโd normally make your next stitch.
- Insert your hook into the stitch where you made your first sc.
- Pull up a loop, making sure to pull it all the way up to the surface.
- Insert your hook into the second space (the one two rows below) and pull up another loop, again bringing it all the way to the surface.
- You should now have 3 loops on your hook.
- Yarn over (yo) and pull through all 3 loops to complete your first diagonal chevron stitch.

Pattern Instructions for the Crochet Chevron Bauble
Make a magic circle, ch 1.
Round 1: work 12 dc in circle, join to first st with a sl st, ch 1. (12 dc)
Round 2: work 2 sc in each st around, join to first st with a sl st, ch 1. (24 sc)
Round 3: work 2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next st. [2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next st], repeat from [ to ] until last 2 sts, work 1 sc in each of last 2 sts, join with a sl st to first st, ch 1. (35 sc)
Round 4: work 1 sc in each st around, do not join. (35 sc)
Make sure you have a stitch marker close by, youโll use it to mark the beginning of Round 5. Youโll be working in the round, without joining, for the rest of the pattern.
Round 5: work 1 sc in each of first 2 sts (mark the first st with a stitch marker). Just as instructed above, locate the first st worked of this round and the 3rd st from 2 rounds below. Reach back and insert hook into the stitch below the first st worked and pull up a loop. Next, insert your hook into the 3rd st from 2 rounds below and pull up a loop. 3 loops on the hook. Yo and pull through all three loops. First diagonal chevron st is made. Before moving on, look at the st you just made. There is a st hiding behind it – it may look deceiving, but that st is already worked because you worked around it instead of into it. Move on to the next st. [Work a sc in each of next 2 sts, diagonal chevron in next st] repeat from [ to ] around, ending with a sc in each of last 2 sts. Do not join. (24 sc, 11, diagonal chevron sts)
Round 6: Note: locate these 2 sps in Round 5: the second to last st of the round and the very first st. The first st of this round will be a diagonal chevron st – these are the sps you will be working into to make it. So, to begin, work your first diagonal chevron st by using these 2 sps, work a sc in each of next 2 sts (Locating the sps for the diagonal chevron st will be easier from here on out.), insert your hook into the first of the 2 sc sts you just made, but a round below, insert your hook into the sc in between the two diagonal chevron sts from 2 rounds below. See photo below. [Work a sc in each of next 2 sts, diagonal chevron in next], repeat from [ to ] around.

Rounds 7 – ?: repeat Round 6 (in the round – without joining) until it measures just shy of 4″ OR thereโs only an inch or a little less at the top of your bauble (youโll have to โtry it onโ as shown below). For me, this was 10 rounds total of the diagonal chevron st (not counting the foundation rounds.)

Final rounds: insert the bauble into the cover. Itโs a bit tricky, but youโll be working these last rounds with the bauble inside. To begin, *[work a sc dec over the next 2 sts] all the way around, repeat from * for about 2 rounds or until youโve reached the top of the bauble. Fasten off and pull the end through so it doesnโt show.
