Instructions for the Lotus Crochet Stitch:

This tutorial is just for a practice swatch. However, if you’re a confident crocheter and want to just jump into making a project (dishcloth, scarf, etc.) then go for it!

Step 1: Ch any multiple of 6 + 5. I started with 23 chs.

Step 2: Work one sc in the second ch from the hook.

Step 3: Skip two chs.

Step 4: Begin to work a lotus stitch (triple puff stitch). So – yo, insert your hook into the ch and pull up a loop.

Step 5: Repeat step 4 two more times. You will have 7 loops on your hook.

Step 6: Yo and pull through 6 loops. Two loops remain.

Step 7: Yo and pull through the two remaining loops. First puff st is made.

Step 8: Ch 2.

Step 9: Working into the same ch, work one puff stitch, ch 2, one puff stitch. You will now have 3 puff sts and two ch-2 spaces in the same ch. First full lotus st is made.

Step 10: Skip 2 chs.

Step 11: Work one sc in the next ch.

Step 12: Skip 2 chs.

Step 13: Work a lotus st (triple puff st) in the next ch. (Steps 4-9)

Step 14: Repeat steps 10-13 until you have 3 chs left (your last st made should be a sc)

Step 15: You will work a partial lotus st in the last ch. So – make a puff st.

Step 16: Ch 2.

Step 17: Make another puff st. Final lotus st of this row is made. This is a partial lotus st and only has two puff sts. NOTE: you will make this same st in the last stitch of every row.

Step 18: Ch 1, turn. Ch 1 never counts as a st for this tutorial. Work one sc in the first st of the next row.

Step 19: Locate the sc from the row below.

Step 20: Work a full lotus st in that sc.

Step 21: Now, locate the middle puff st of the lotus st from the row below.

Step 22: Work one sc in this center puff st.

Step 23: Repeat steps 19-22 until you come to the last st.

Step 24: Work a partial lotus st (one puff st, ch 2, puff st) in the very last st.

Step 25: Continue to repeat row 2 (steps 18-24) until your practice swatch is your desired size.
