10 Fan-Favorite Crochet Patterns That Have Stood the Test of Time
If you’ve been crocheting (or designing) for a while, you know that some patterns just don’t land the way you thought they would. I recently wrote about my patterns that flopped, but today, I want to share the opposite—patterns that took off in ways I never expected! Some of these I had a feeling might do well, but others were a total surprise. Either way, these have been fan favorites for years and continue to be some of my best-selling and most-loved designs.
One of the best parts of designing crochet patterns is seeing how much others love them. I always get so excited when people connect with a design, make it their own, and share their finished pieces. It’s such a joy to see these patterns pop up again and again. Here are some of the ones that have done unexpectedly well:

Chunky Blanket Crochet Pattern
This one started with an Anthropologie blanket I saw on Pinterest. I wanted to take that inspiration and combine two of my favorite things—Hue + Me yarn and bobble stitches. I had a gut feeling this one might do well, but you just never know. Turns out, I was right—this pattern immediately started selling like crazy on Etsy and has remained my top-selling pattern across all platforms for over a year now.

BOHO WINE TOTE CROCHET PATTERN
I went through quite a few design iterations before settling on two versions of this pattern: a bobble version (because of course, I love bobbles!) and a simpler, more classic version. Both have been consistently popular on my blog, Etsy, and YouTube for over three years. Even when I was selling at markets, these were always a top seller.

Crochet Knit Stitch Cowl Pattern
This pattern was a total surprise! It’s a very simple design, but when I made a reel showing the stitch, it went viral. I think a big part of its success came from the yarn I used—Jewelspun Northern Lights. I had so many requests for the yarn and the pattern, and it has continued to be a best-seller on Etsy ever since.

Diamond Crochet Tote Bag
I designed this bag specifically for a blog hop, wanting something eye-catching. Even though it’s tapestry crochet, it’s actually a simple repeat. Out of all the blog hops I’ve participated in, this pattern has been the most successful and remains a best-seller in my Etsy shop to this day.

Chunky Crochet Blanket Pattern
This was my first-ever blanket design—and the first full-sized blanket I ever made. I used to avoid blankets, thinking they were too much of a commitment, but I used a #6 yarn to speed things up and paired it with the almond ridge stitch. I was shocked when I finished it in just two days! This pattern took off right away and has been a top seller ever since.

Tulip Crochet Baby Blanket
I designed this as a gift for my cousin’s baby girl, inspired by the blankets my great-grandmother used to make. She made the same style of blanket for all her great-granddaughters, and I wanted to carry on that tradition. I finally figured out the stitch she used—the tulip stitch—and created this design in her honor. This pattern has done really well on both YouTube and Etsy.

Tapestry Crochet Blanket - Free Pattern
After overcoming my fear of blankets, I wanted to try a tapestry crochet design. I saw a pillow with a similar pattern and thought it would look amazing as a blanket. Using my favorite Hue + Me yarn, I created exactly what I had envisioned. I usually give away a lot of my crochet pieces, but I kept this one. And it turns out, a lot of others wanted to keep it too—it remains one of my most popular patterns.

Easy Knit Look Hat - Free Crochet Pattern
For some reason, Etsy’s algorithm loves this hat! I originally made it just for myself because I wanted a thick, cozy hat for winter. People saw me wearing it in my videos and kept asking for the pattern, so I wrote it up. It’s made entirely with slip stitches in the back loop only, which gives it amazing stretch. Even though slip stitches can be slow, using chunky yarn makes it go much faster. This is my go-to winter hat, and it seems like it’s everyone else’s too!

Crochet Chunky Scarf - Free Pattern
This scarf combines two of my favorite things—knit-look stitches and bobbles! The design alternates long rows of bobbles with stretchy knit-look rows, and it has been a hit on Etsy ever since I released it three years ago. I gifted one to my mom, and she always gets compliments when she wears it.

CROCHET CAT CROWN - Free Crochet Pattern
This is probably my most unexpected viral pattern. When I adopted my cat, Maybelline, I was completely obsessed with her and wanted to make her a tiny crown. I added little bead “jewels” to it and wrote up the pattern. The next morning, I woke up to find it had gone viral! I couldn’t believe how many cat crowns were suddenly showing up in my feed. It’s still one of my most-watched YouTube videos and a best-seller in my Etsy shop.
Which One is Your Favorite?
It’s always fun to look back at patterns that have been unexpectedly popular. Some I had a feeling would do well, but others completely surprised me. Do you have a favorite from this list? Or is there a pattern of mine that you’ve made and loved? Let me know in the comments—I’d love to hear your thoughts!
